Paste a free API key
Create one at console.groq.com or aistudio.google.com — both have generous free tiers. Open Settings in the side panel, paste, save. That key stays in your browser.
Select, right-click, done
Highlight text anywhere, pick a Skriveo action from the context menu, and the side panel opens with your result. Click a reply draft to paste it into the page.
Architecture, not promises
We could not read your text even if we wanted to
Most AI writing tools route your words through their servers. Skriveo has no servers to route them through — the extension talks to the AI provider you picked and to nothing else, and the browser enforces that.
- No backend of ours exists. There is no account system, no database, and no request log with your name on it.
- Two host permissions, total. Groq and Google Gemini. The manifest cannot reach any other host, and Chrome blocks the attempt.
- No content script. Nothing runs on the pages you browse in the background. The extension only touches the current tab at the moment you invoke it.
- Zero analytics. No telemetry, no advertising SDK, no fingerprinting, no "anonymous usage data".
- Your key is yours. Stored in your browser's own extension storage and sent only to the provider it belongs to.

The things people ask first
Why do I need my own API key?
Because it is what makes the rest of the promise possible. If we ran the AI for you, we would need a server holding a key, your text would pass through it, and we would have to charge a subscription to pay for it. Instead you connect directly to Groq or Google under your own account, and there is nothing in between.
Is it actually free, or free-for-now?
Both, honestly. The free tier — summarize in three lengths, grammar fixes in three modes, copy, text-to-speech, reading stats and both providers — is free permanently. Everything else is currently unlocked for everyone during early access, and there will be a one-time $15 Pro licence later. Anyone who installs before that switch keeps every feature for free, permanently, based on the install date the extension records on your device. Nothing is taken away from you.
What does an API key actually cost me?
For typical use, nothing. Both providers have free tiers that comfortably cover everyday summarizing and replying. If you push past them, you pay the provider directly at their published rates — Skriveo takes no cut and never sees the bill.
Can you read what I select?
No, and not as a policy choice — there is no mechanism. We operate no server. Your selected text goes from your browser straight to the provider you configured, over a connection the browser restricts to exactly two hosts. See the privacy policy for the full breakdown of what is stored and where.
Which browsers are supported?
Chrome 116+ and the Chromium family: Edge, Brave, Opera, Arc and Vivaldi. Firefox needs a different background architecture and Safari has to be repackaged as a macOS app — both are on the roadmap, neither is shipping yet.
Does the reply insertion work on every site?
It works on the major ones — Gmail, LinkedIn, X, Slack, Notion and ordinary text boxes. The web has a long tail of custom editors that fight programmatic input, and where one refuses the text, Skriveo tells you plainly and copies the draft to your clipboard rather than silently failing.
What data is stored on my device?
Your API key and provider choice in Chrome's synced extension storage, plus your result history, custom prompts and interface preferences in local storage. Uninstalling the extension removes all of it. Nothing is transmitted to us at any point.
Which AI models does it use?
Whichever you choose. Skriveo pulls the live model list from your provider, so Llama, GPT-OSS and Gemini variants all appear as options and retired models never strand you. Fast models for quick fixes, larger ones when the writing matters.
